What is Baptism?
Baptism is an outward expression of an inward decision to follow Jesus. It's a beautiful picture of the gospel—when you are immersed in water, it represents being buried with Christ; when you come up out of the water, it represents being raised to new life in Him (Romans 6:4).
Baptism doesn't save us—Jesus' sacrifice on the cross does—but it is an important step of obedience that shows the world you belong to Him.
At New Hope, We Believe:
- Baptism is for anyone who has personally made the decision to put their faith in Jesus as Lord and Savior.
- We baptize by immersion, just as Jesus was baptized (Matthew 3:16).
- Baptism is a public declaration of faith and a step of obedience to Jesus' command (Matthew 28:19-20).
- Baptism is both a burial and a resurrection (Romans 6:1-4).
